Education policy

Introduction

Education policy is one of the most important features in nation’s social and ethical values. There are several educational policies followed by different countries in order to build an effective society. The western society has many policies that describe their educational culture in the world. Urban education has always been a matter to worry because there are many developments in the society positive and negative. In order to keep children away from negative approaches and tempt towards positive remedies there needs to be proper policies and acts in place. Urban education means education that is provided in leading cities and towns. Urban education is at a stake for students who attend them because of inequality. This essay will critical analyze ECM policy.

Discussion

Implementation of education policies is very important in modern educational structure. There needs to be proper initiative taken by government to protect child interest in terms of education and health. Lack of proper implementation towards education policies may result in criminal activities because children can easily be manipulated by anti-social elements in order to create disturbance in society. Moreover lack of proper implementation of such policies can also result in poverty. There are many policies implemented by government in the United Kingdom for preservation of children health and education. The children health and education acts were initiated in the later part of nineteenth century. Some of the important policies vigilant are Every Child Matters(ECM), Free School Meals(FCM) and Academies Act are some of the policies that has been initiated by government widely in order to maintain the educational system so that children can get high quality knowledge with proper care (Raffo, 2013, p.16).

This discussion is based on the detailed analysis of ECM policy which was initiated in England in the year 2003. This is one of the most important programs launched in favour of children and their services. This program consists of many fundamental ideologies that can help in proper growth of students career (Parsons, 2002, p.58). Every Child Matters or ECM covers children up to age of nineteen only with one exception; it covers disabled children up to age of twenty four. This policy aims towards some important features that inculcate in proper growth of children. First of all this policy focuses on safety and security of children. According to this policy schools should take proper care of children and it is the responsibility of school administration to take care of student’s safety (Raffo, 2011, p.66). While in school any incident needs to be taken-care by school authorities. Proper security should be there so that kidnapping or other sort of unsocial activities do not happen to children while they are in schools (Florian, 2013, p.81). This policy is very effective for this cause because the administration of school has the pressure to maintain its security system for safety of children. Another important feature of this policy is to maintain health of children while they are in school (Wilkinson, 2009, p.89). The administrative department takes care of all students while they are in school. If any kind of sickness or injury occurs to any children while they are in school, it is the responsibility of staffs to take immediate care of the students instead of waiting for their parents to come and take them away. This feature helps children and parents to develop a trust in schools and hence the fear of sending students to school is reduced among them. This policy also takes care of children enjoyment and achievement (McCarty, 2001, p.98).

Enjoyment in school by the medium of sports and games is necessary so that children can be physically fit and they can overcome the pressure of their academics by playing games and participating in sports. With this feature children are rewarded with awards and prizes for best sportsman in any field. Hence this feature is also very effective to build a student’s career. Before implementation of this policy students in different schools were not treated equally because of economic difference between different students. After implementation of this policy it is a mandate that staffs should not discriminate students based on their economic backgrounds hence children interest remains preserved and they are provided maximum knowledge in an appropriate atmosphere. The policy of “Every Child Matters” has contributed a lot towards progress of children in their academic growth (Deslandes, 2009, p.72). It has helped in providing knowledge in classrooms without any discrimination among children of different cultures. This has been a positive approach in the educational sector in the society. This act undoubtedly has several significances since it has been launched. Though this policy had many immense effects for a decade it is no longer entertained by government. Now-a-days government prefers to send health visitors to children in their home instead of funding for this policy centrally (Education, 2003, p.7).

Government in the present world is supporting more traditional ways of health check-up instead of providing the entire responsibility to schools. The ECM is still known and famous in the educational society because of its powerful ideology (Taylor, 2003, p.34). ECM says that Every Child shall be healthy, safe, economic and filled with enjoyment and positively contributed. This ideology was very prominent in the academic careers for children for about 8 years.

Providing education to a group of children from different culture, society and language has always been a challenge because it increases the differentiation. But implementation of educational policy in urban education has always helped to reduce the challenges and optimize the output (Dare, 2000, p.28).  In urban education there should be proper governing body that can maintain the education system by reducing the discrimination and providing maximum comfort to children and their parents so that children can grant knowledge based information in regular class without any problem or interference. Knowledge is the only way that can enlighten positive culture and reduce anti-social activities in the society.

Conclusion

From the above discussion it is clear that the education and learning system has been a vital topic to shape the social life of a country. Implementation of new educational policies has brought many revolutions and the modern education system. As already discussed urban education has many disadvantages for children who are taking regular classes. The main reason is inequality among students. The implementation of new educational policies has shown tremendous positive effects on the education system. Because of the educational policies the ways means that provide education have been enhanced and in the modern world there are limited challenges. Hence it can be concluded that educational policies are very beneficial for children and ECM has been one of the policies that has helped to tackle the problems in urban education.
