Before inserting the name of your source into the fields of our machine, please make sure you really want to use it in your work. According to the latest regulations, the sources have to be no older than five years old. Also, teachers prefer scholarly sources that can be found online. Otherwise, they may doubt that a student has really bought a book or found a rare journal issue just to read several related pages. Besides, the teachers usually want to view the full article and see whether the student has mentioned credible information. In other words, make sure you allow your instructor to access the sources of your choice without having to search for them in the traditional libraries or purchase them online.

How to create ACS in-text eBook citation of any type?

You may be unaware of the American Chemical Society writing style known as ACS. If you are not studying Chemistry or Physics, you don’t need to worry. Most probably, you will face the need to quote only in MLA, APA or other popular and commonly applied referencing styles. However, be ready that your Chemistry teacher will most probably ask you to format your writing assignments according to this specific format. Your Chemistry works may be:

Before you decide whether you need some help, let us take a short tour. Every citation in ACS has two parts:

  • In-text citations which can be either direct (when you leave the words of the author in the same way/copy-paste) and indirect (when you rewrite the ideas in your own words)
  • Reference list (a Bibliography with the list of all sources used throughout the paper)

In-text citations share short defining information within the text. To insert an in-text citation, the writer has to introduce it somehow. Such phrases/transition words as “according to…,” “based on…,” “as mentioned by…” and others help. Once you begin the sentence with this phrase, you should go on with the words of another author you wish to share using quotation marks. In the brackets next to the source, you should specify the number. Another way is to put the last name of the author and year of publication. You’ll specify the rest of the details in your Bibliography.

How exactly should one add ACS in-text eBook citation? The simplest and quickest way is to apply our generator. However, to let you understand the nature of this style, we’ll explain it literally.

First of all, keep in mind there are three ways to add in-text citations in ACS style:

  • Superscript numbers
  • Italic numbers
  • Author-date style

The first case requires adding a number in the shape of superscript at the end of the cited/quoted sentence. Stick to this rule if your chosen sentence has no reminder of the author. If you put a name of the author somewhere in the sentence, insert a superscript right next to the name.

Dwayne1 states that electrons are a type of subatomic particle with a negative charge.

Italic numbers also appear in the end. The only difference is that they appear in the brackets.

Protons and neutrons have approximately the same mass (1).

Finally, you are most probably aware of the author-date style as it is used in MLA and APA. It’s easy: once you insert a quotation, mention the author’s last name and year of publication in the brackets next to the quoted sentence.

Each element has a unique number of protons (Roland, 2001).

P.S.: When there are two authors per source, make sure to apply “and” between their names. If there are more than two authors, apply “et al.” But the first time you recall this source, make sure to list all surnames.
