Obesity is a health condition where abnormal amount of fat accumulates in the body and result in various diseases. Obesity is an increasing health problem and as an obese person Mr. have the health risk of cardiovascular disorder like coronary artery disease ((CAD, hyper tension, Type II diabetes, atherosclerosis, and vascular disorders. For Mr.C.bariatric surgery is a valid option because he is excessively obese as his weight comes at 134.5kg. Bariatric surgery is suited for people who weight more than 100 kg and having serious medical problems, he will have difficulty in lowering his body weight. Since Mr. has several health problems like peptic ulcer, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, sleep apnea, he will be a good candidate for bariatric surgery. According to (ASMBS,2017) “A person with BMI ≥35 and has at least one or more obesity-related co-morbidities such as type II diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease can be subjected to bariatric surgery”.

Administration Schedule

Magnesium hydroxide/aluminum hydroxide (Mylanta) 15 mL – 10.a.m,3.p.m,9p.m

Ranitidine (Zantac) 300 mg PO – 10p.m

Sucralfate/Carafate 1 g -6a.m, 11a.m, 5 p.m. and 10p.m

Functional Health Patterns

  1. Health perception – Health Management; Mr. does not perceive himself to be healthy as he is concerned about his increasing weight, blood pressure and peptic ulcer. His health management is poor as he has gained 100 pounds in last 2-3 years.
  2. Self – Perception – Self -Concept – He has a self – perception that he is under obesity threat and as he suffers from sleep apnea his situation is perceived to be bad which prompted him to seek bariatric surgery.
  3. Nutritional – metabolic – Patient is consuming excessive calorie and therefore gaining weight and eating a snack at 10 p.m. adds to the problem.
  4. Sleep – rest – Patient is not getting adequate sleep due to sleep apnea.
  5. Activity – Exercise – Patients works at a job where he mostly sits and is gaining weight due to this fact.
